Gorgeous UK islands are Britain’s top staycation bucket list destination
A staycation is a fantastic chance to get out and explore some of the most beautiful areas of Britain.
But where are Britons most desperate to visit in the UK?
According to research from the team at National Rail, the Isles of Scilly are the UK’s dream bucket list destination.
The pretty archipelago beat out competition from the Lake District, the Scottish Highlands and Edinburgh to claim the top spot.
The Isles of Scilly are located off the coast of Cornwall and are one of the UK’s most unspoilt regions. However, the tourism team describes the islands as a “world apart from Cornwall”.
Although many of the islands are uninhabited, there are five populated islands where tourists can stay.
From beach walks to seal snorkelling or island hopping, the Isles of Scilly offer a unique holiday experience.
The quiet paradise can also be reached on a day trip from the Cornish mainland via passenger ferry.
Edinburgh was the UK’s dream city break, coming in second place in the ranking. The Lake District National Park rounded off the top three.
Catherine Lyver of National Rail, said: “Our top 10 bucket list locations, as chosen by the British public, showcase the very best of what Great Britain has to offer, highlighting our most iconic landmarks, remarkable scenery, and our rich history and culture.”
While the Big Smoke didn’t make the top three, the Tower of London did take fourth place on the list.
